Re: Forcing K. Namwa to grow faster

We are still continuing regular deleafing of any Namwa plant under about 8 feet in stem size and this technique is proving very successful in not allowing plants to go dormant and stop growing. Most...

Re: What's eating my Namwa leaves ?

Yes, we don't see them in the day, I thought I saw a small white fly though, yesterday, when I took the photo. We try not to treat the Namwa but nature is just too hungry around here.
Spraying these...

Re: New concept GM high density field

We planted all our GM previously at 1200 per acre, these fields are all fruiting and pupping and there is so much space and weeds between each plant that it incited me to try this new HD...

Thanks, it's already nice and shaded under there. I'm thinking to install a beer stall in the green cool...:nanadrink:

Re: New concept GM high density field

One month has passed since the last TLC photo. Another shot at deleafing the whole field and the K. Hom are looking just fine. It is now easy to creep into the field, just by bending over slightly....

Re: First macro propagation attempt

We have used rubber tree sawdust successfully and red hardwood sawdust successfully. Both work for us. I would not use a corm smaller than four inches in diameter once pared.

Good luck, post some...

Re: Giant grubs are eating my GM plantlets

Very interesting interaction indeed. I googled this immediately and it opens a fascinating world of new solutions. Heterorhabditis bacteriophora should do the job, I hope I may be able to trace them...

Re: Giant grubs are eating my GM plantlets

Lol
We don't use any neonicotinoids on the plantation as we rely on bees for our Longan and our Mangoes.
It is also a problem to get to the actual soil as the bags are hidden by the leaves and there...

Giant grubs are eating my GM plantlets

A few of our Gros Michel plantlets had yellowing leaves so we checked on them and found these very large grubs feeding on their roots, in the growbags.
According to the staff, they are Rhino Beetle...

Re: Forcing K. Namwa to grow faster

Here is what we do with our GM.
Once sword suckers (pups) start growing around the first pstem and once they have reached the minimum size of 50cm out of the ground we will dig them up, all except...

Re: Forcing K. Namwa to grow faster

Many thanks for the clear and interesting points

The best Namwa in the plantation grow up to fifteen feet and grow quickly (well, for Namwa anyway). They also quickly push up pups that can rapidly...

Re: Forcing K. Namwa to grow faster

We permanently top off hundreds of pups that are becoming too big as it is a technique for delaying flowering and maintaining the plant in its vegetative development phase.
I therefore believe that...

Re: Banana lost the central leaf and stop growing, how can i save it?

I would suggest pruning it right down to an inch from the ground with a razor sharp knife. If the apical dominance has already been lost, then one of the existing pups or a new pup will grow into the...

Re: New concept GM high density field

Hi Akula,

I will only discuss the GM cultivars as we are stopping any further development of Namwa and will end up replacing them with GM.
Basically, we have very few problems with the two cultivars...

Re: New concept GM high density field

Interesting idea, thanks!

If you have the link to that thread, I would be grateful. I'd need to understand the scientific logic in that.

Re: New concept GM high density field

ABSOLUTELY!
I regret now having planted so many Namwa (about 2000), they take twice the time of the GM to crop. The trees are too high so bagging is a no-no, therefore they provide nice and comfy...

Re: New concept GM high density field

We do not transplant the corms directly into the field anymore, we nurse them for two and a half months in grow bags, under a 400m2 50% shade hardening tent in the warm season and in shaded...

Re: New concept GM high density field

Exactly! Also the leaves are full of nutrients that once degraded, will continue to feed the plants. We are deleafing down to three leaves nowadays, with a cigar counted as a leaf. You would be...

I sometimes wake up at night in a cold sweat after dreaming that a herd of wild elephants has made its way into our plantation to gorge themselves on the fruit. Fortunately, the nearest...

Re: New concept GM high density field

Right now we don't, we compost them. Later, when we can afford a mulching implement for our tractor, we will mulch them for our own use thoughout the plantation. Its a progressive development...
