Re: Musa Basjoo out for winter and too much rain?

Hi Lovetogarden,

If it is in the ground, you should be fine as long as the soil drains and doesn't hold water for a long time.

If its in a pot, I would move it under an awning or something to get...

Re: Long, wide streaks on banana leaves

Looks to me like the pigment is just filling in from a new leaf that has just opened after it was rolled up. I do not grow the dwarf Cavendish but I get that on my other cultivars/varieties and looks...

Re: Musa Basjoo Spacing

I'm about 30-35 miles NE of Atlanta and my Basjoos in the ground are about 6 feet already this year - no fertilizer yet. Once you hit them with a good dose of fertilizer, they turn into monsters and...

Re: An Update Of My Latest Nana Plants 2018!

The Tu'u Ghia is disease resistant so does that include viruses like bunchy top? We don't have banana diseases in my region so I'm not versed but interested in learning and promoting awareness.

Man, you and Ty are making me want to move this one to the top of my want list.

I also like hearing input from Rob and crew in HI. Interesting...

Re: Propping up the bunch efficiently, economically

Hey Louis14, check this link out: http://www.bananas.org/f2/propping-tall-ones-best-materials-46682.html#post299415

I think a lot of well known growers here in the states uses this method. And some...

Re: small pup corms attached to mother corm

Like Edwmax advised, just put it in the ground. You don't need to knock any dirt off the corm. Mix some compost in the hole with the native soil, water in good and forget it until you see new...

Re: What has caused this?

Just check the top layer and soil around drainage holes with your finger. The meter stick going ll the way down the potting soil may disturb the roots too much. Just my opinion.

Re: What has caused this?

I've had really really bad luck with the Miracle Grow yellow bag potting soil....I hate it due to the wetting agent they use. The wetting agent is really bad for corms and slow root growth in my...

Re: What has caused this?

Looks like possible slight potassium deficiency.

What is your potting soil?

How long has it been in the pot?

Re: Gypsum

I never tried it. I mixed a lot of organic material in the top foot and then put black mulch over that and it has softened up the clay so much. It usually takes a season or two for the organic...

Re: How To Overwinter Medium Size Viente Cohol Indoors?

Thanks, Ty! I always wondered about using a spray bottle for the leaves! I'll pick one up and start on a few cultivars I have potted up to compare any differences.

Re: How To Overwinter Medium Size Viente Cohol Indoors?

Is it currently in a pot or in the ground?

If transplanting it into a pot, cut all the leaves off besides the top 2-3. then cut those in half-1/4. This will redirect most the energy for rooting...

Re: Southeast "Dry-Root" Winter Storage

If you mean between the straps and the pstem then I don't think you'd want to use plastic for that. its not for the support but to let the pstems breath a little. I would think the plastic firm...

Re: Southeast Veinte Cohol Flowering

My first ever VC bunch isn't looking too bad so far. Hoping the highs in the mid 80's and lows in mid 60's stick around a bit longer. Hurricane Nate brought some of the highest humidity all growing...
