Re: Worlds Largest Bunch of Banana's

Sunfish - 3260 I believe!! I didn't weigh mine but I don't think they came close to their weight - so they must have been regular bananas of some sort.

1000 fingers

The 1000 fingers has a good sized bunch again - probably over a 1000 by now. However with TS Chantal about to grace our shores possibly as a cat1 hurricane, they might not survive the next few days...

Re: Cashews

Sorry to be so late to the party - we have a cashew tree that has loads of fruit/nuts. You know of course that each fruit only has one cashew nut which is why they are so expensive (apart from the...

Re: Saba A Plantain ?

I grew them for many years for their architectural appearance which is spectacular, but although they are heavy croppers (70lb bunches) the flavour is nondescript even when fully ripe, and we used to...

Re: Making pothos bloom?

Once it starts to climb and gets about 4ft tall the leaves change to dinner plate size, but the early small leaves stay the same. And once the aerial roots come down it really takes off. Mine has...

Re: What is your favourite banana plant and why?

A really good cultivar of Orinoco when the fruit is left to ripen on the plant until the skin goes orange - takes some beating! Just delicious! After that I guess the Tall Red and the Orito are...

Re: Photos of Puerto Rican Morado

Sorry - missed that question the first time around!:ha: Dominicans call any banana that they cook, a rulo. So Orinoco (which they never let ripen) and Saba, but they don't regard them as plantain...

Re: Photos of Puerto Rican Morado

Keith - I agree with you that people pick the reds too soon, and are then disappointed. You need to leave them on the plant until they have turned all the colours of the sunset, and then wait until...

Re: Photos of Puerto Rican Morado

Ha!! Joker - let me tell you that at night the temperature plummets down to 72f/22c!!! Even the dogs are shivering and the Dominicans have their jackets and warm hats on.
