Re: Potted fruit trees.

Hi Tony,
Do you have any photo of your trees in the 30-gallon pot?
What kind of soil do you use?
Thanks,

Re: Dwarf Orinoco (Thanks Sunfish!)

We do get a few days of frost, but this banana plant is in a protected area, no frost in this micro environment. I'll still wrap it up anyways. :bananas_b

Re: Dwarf Orinoco (Thanks Sunfish!)

The weather is getting colder in my area. The size of the bananas seem to be larger, but they're not looking any more ripe than the 1st photo. Will the cold temps harm the fruits? When, or should I...

The brown holder is from WalMart. The "banana" holder is from Amazon. :bananas_b

Does this look like Mysore?

I've marked it as Mysore in my photo album, but just want to verify with the naner experts. The pseustem diameter is thinner than other types of bananas, is that a characteristic of Mysore? I was...

Re: Would thinning out the fruits make the rest bigger?

I'm in Bakersfield. San Jose can be pretty cold too, but probably not as cold as Bakersfield in the winter. San Jose can also get real hot, but doesn't stay hot as long.

Are these fakers? Off topic: at this current time 2:08 PM, sunfish's San Diego temp is 106, Bakersfield is ONLY 99. Haha, what's going...

Re: Would thinning out the fruits make the rest bigger?

Thanks Ventura,

I also have Dwarf Brazilian, Mysore, Rajapuri. So the chance is high that my "blue java" is a namwah. Can I tell by the appearance of the fruits if they're blue java? :nanadrink:

Re: Would thinning out the fruits make the rest bigger?

The Blue Java came from a relative of mine, she probably got it at Home Depot. So is Blue Java the same as Namwah? Or is it just mislabelling by the store? I got some Dwarf Namwah from you.

Re: Would thinning out the fruits make the rest bigger?

Hmm, I didn't know that better pollination (by hand) would yield larger fruits. Couple years ago, I was so excited to see the 1st flowers, and did the night pollination thing religiously. This time,...

Would thinning out the fruits make the rest bigger?

They taste very good, but most are very small. The red fleshed one is quite tasty, according to my wife, she beat me to it....

Dwarf Orinoco (Thanks Sunfish!)

Got the pups from Tony in Sep 2009, and now there's something to show for it. :nanadrink: I got a bunch of different varieties from Tony, the Misi Luki is also having fruits (not pictured). Will...

Re: Passiflora

Tony,

Which passion fruit is sweet? I planted mine for shade, and they've surely done their job, growing so fast, beautiful foliage, flowers, and fruits. They're sour eaten out of hand, but tastes...

Re: Rambutan

They don't like dry air, they don't like cold temps. They want warm air and high humidity. It's possible that your seeds were irradiated, so the plants growing from them are sterile.

Re: Book: The World of Bananas in Hawaii: Then and Now

I know exactly what you're talking about, some were astringent and chalky, because they were not ripe, even though they looked like they were. I waited for another week, and the rest of the bunch was...
