Re: Looking for Basjoo pollen

Basjoo is a species banana so needs pollen for the fruit to swell and set seed. No pollen; no seed and no banana.

What variety? Where did you get them? How long have you had them?

Re: Blue Java Ice Cream Banana Seeds

Is the variegation stable? I think you need to start thinking of a name for your new cultivar.

I really must get hold of a UV light.

When I first joined this is the type of conversation that was had...

Re: Looking for musa ingens seed source

I really wouldn't waste your money. Unless you can provide the optimum conditions for them they will die.

Re: Cold stratification after planting?

It is definitely something that you could try. They are from the Himalayas so areas that can and do get cold. There is no reason why this would do any harm. I am in fact trying it myself with a batch...

Re: Good ideas and few Facebook shares needed

Hi Ante

Not sure why, but I can't get the photos to show up. Are there photos? Also you might want to mention if there is a smoke alarm.

Re: Bare Root Musa Var Tanee

Thought so. Give it bottom heat, hold back on the water, keep out of the sun, no 100watt grow lights either. They will grow new roots first followed by top growth. Once you see top growth then give...

Re: Thomsonii or cheesmanii

Definitely not Helen's hybrid. If you press me I'd say they look more like Yunnanensis.

Re: Thomsonii or cheesmanii

Difficult to gauge the size, but Thompsonii are smaller than Cheesmani and don't have 'spikes'. If they are small, kind of Velutina sized, they are Thompsonii.

They don't really look like Chessmanii.

Re: How to kill fungus and bacteria on seed before germination

I have to agree with Gabe; no need to sterilise. The seed wouldn't be sterilised in nature. I have started to use straight multipurpose compost.

If a seed shows signs of mould straight away then it...

Re: Rolling up the leaves of the seedlings

Are they Thai Black by any chance? That happens a lot with my Thai Black seedlings usually when they are stressed in some way - could be an issue with the roots. If you lift them and see if they are...

Re: Musa Itinerans var. Gigantea

I don't want to burst your bubble, but they aren't germinating, that white stuff is rot. When germinating the plug in the middle of the seed lifts up and the radical appears.

I'm not sure what the...
