Hi, I planted 36 seeds last July of several species. Only five germinated, but I was tidying up my balcony today and discovered one more has germinated in the propagator! It's a Musa balbisiana (Thai...

I'm trying to let them dry out before rewatering, and I'm feeding them very dilute seaweed fertiliser once a week. They've never been outdoors before last week, and it's never got below around 9℃ at...

I've put my banana plants out on the balcony now that it's warmer in the UK, but my Musa basjoo is looking wilty and its leaves are spotty. Is this:
Too much water
Not enough water

Re: Red and Blue
Also, eating bananas only don't have seeds if they're the ones favoured in Europe and the US - there are many edible species with seeds around the world.

Dwarf fruiting varieties?
I'm looking for seeds or [whatever the tubers are called] for dwarf varieties of fruiting bananas that I can get hold of in the UK, or get shipped here.
I'd particularly like to get the dwarf Blue...

Looking into it more I'm guessing Red Dacca and Blue Java - I should probably be looking for the dwarf varieties!

Red and Blue
I've just purchased seeds for both red and blue fruiting bananas (if they are and do). I'd like to find out more about the species and how best to cultivate them (I'll be growing them in tubs, I only...

Ensete glaucum (snow)
I've got two snow banana seedlings, now about six months grown and finally outdoors with the others. They seem slow growing and a bit weak compared to my others (Himalayan, Abyssinian) - is there...

Thanks - I figure it's also easier on the plant than it trying to keep the busted leaves going.

"Seed leaves"
Hi, I've been growing Snow, Himalayan, and Abyssinian bananas from seed in SW England. Now they're outdoors in the daytime (in pots) and they're enjoying the sunshine, but their earliest, smallest...

Re: Musa basjoo leaves easily broken
I'm just being way more careful now. I repotted the others recently and accidentally broke a leaf off my Abyssinian as well, which was sad. And then I screwed up and overwatered them all a bit, but...

Re: Musa basjoo leaves easily broken
It's a shame because it was one of the newest leaves too. Ah well, I'll just have to be more careful. They'll be going out on the balcony soon anyway so they'll harden up.

Musa basjoo leaves easily broken
Is this normal? I have a M. basjoo that's about 18" tall in a pot, and a friend accidentally bumped it the other day and a leaf broke off. I was pretty cross, but then this morning I was brushing...

Re: Musa basjoo not well - any ideas why?
The soil is just potting compost with a layer of gravel at the bottom for drainage (same goes for the small pots). The grey appearance of the soil is because I've had to use diatomaceous powder to...

Sorry, I'm still new to this forum and forget it's the one where I have to upload to a gallery instead of just posting a bbcode link to where I host it.
It's had some wonky leaves ever since I had...
