Re: Healthy plants falling over unexpectedly

Wasn’t sure you were serious, but I can see a fillet knife should work well. Maybe a dedicated knife just for the bananas? Will one of the cheap ones under $20 on Amazon be adequate?

Re: Healthy plants falling over unexpectedly

What’s the best tool to cut it? I have long handled loppers and hedge shears but these stems are too thick for even them

Re: Healthy plants falling over unexpectedly

So I need to cut it down at the base as I’m assuming once it folds over the plant is done?

Healthy plants falling over unexpectedly

We had a severe thunderstorm last Thursday afternoon and even has some hail here in SW FL. There were high winds with gusts reportedly up to 50mph. Even before this storm I had seen a couple of...

Re: 2019 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

Is there a go to place to buy burlap? I figure I will need 1200 sq ft or so and I am already planning on buying the 4 mil thick black plastic ($60 or so from HD or Lowes) for this area to kill the...

Re: 2019 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

Thanks for the info on the fertilizing and the way you prepped the area. 2000 pounds of black cow sounds like a lot. IIRC, I used maybe 1/2 bag filled in to each planting hole when I planted mine...

Re: 2019 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida

Akula, wow, was that really only 2 months between those 2 pictures of the stand you have on the west side of your property? I started some of my TC plants back in 11/17 and in approx 2 years mine...

Re: An Update Of My Latest Nana Plants 2018!

So basically the Pinch a Penny sand is twice the price? Hector told me the silica sand in the link above is what he uses.

Re: An Update Of My Latest Nana Plants 2018!

HMelendez, another question about the sand. Where do you find yours and what are the best deals for quantity/price/bulk? I saw this on HomeDepot, but it doesn't seem like coarse...

Re: DIY Biochar

Wow you did this inside your house? I'm hesitant to do this where I live for fear my neighbors will report me to the HOA when they see billows of smoke making BioChar. Hell, I use my Weber grill...

25 pound bag of Sul-Po-Mag fertilizer hardened to solid block?

I bought two of these figuring they were going to be around for a couple of years to use for all the bananas I have going on. I opened one package and it is in a zip lock bag but after using it 3...

Re: Foliar Spray Mixes for Bananas

I'll have to check out caterpillar killer. My one Hua Moa has holes in an unfurled cigar leaf. Hopefully it is not a banana weevil...

SDDarkman, do you just add them all together in a hose end...

Re: An Update Of My Latest Nana Plants 2018!

One more thing HMelendez, maybe I should have PMed you instead of posting here, but for the sake of other people wanting to make these expandable domes I figured it is relevant to the thread. Best I...

Re: An Update Of My Latest Nana Plants 2018!

Is it completely sealed, ie. any leakage?

Clear packing tape or scotch tape?

Also what's the best way to cut it so they stack? Using a box cutter blade?

Does the second tier stack without...

Re: An Update Of My Latest Nana Plants 2018!

Ok, well I must have missed or didnt read yet in that lengthy thread, that you used your own soiless mix of sphagnum peat moss, perlite and silica sand. I was under the impression you used ONLY 100%...

Re: Dwarf Iholena bent at right angle cut or not?

SDDarkman, wow that's a shame about Agristarts doing that. Seems it would put uneeded stress on such a young plantlet that is pretty delicate at that stage.

Re: Dwarf Iholena bent at right angle cut or not?

I did get the smaller Dwarf Iholena repotted in a 3 gallon container and layed it sideways, so now it is pointing straight up. I just didn't know if having part of the p-stem buried like this, could...

Re: Dwarf Iholena bent at right angle cut or not?

Sarah I thought about that, but I'd need quite a large pot wide enough to be able to lay it sideways for it to be upright. May be possible to put this in a 3 gallon container to make that happen,...

Re: Dwarf Iholena bent at right angle cut or not?

Thanks for the response Sarah. Things are still growing here in Florida. The stem is kind of puny since I never repotted it over the summer. It was stuck in a 4" pot that tipped over in my lanai,...

Re: An Update Of My Latest Nana Plants 2018!

HMelendez, also how do you make those clear dome extensions? Do you just buy the dome and cut out the top to stack them? How do you seal it so water doesn't evaporate through the cracks?
