Re: Masa Basjoo Banana

I am north of you a bit(Cleveland). I planted mine around may 20th last year. When I cut them down in October they were approximately 10ft. They all survived the winter. It was a mild one though....

Wife says "NO MORE BANANAS"!!

Unfortunately for her, my giant mekongs just arrived. I think I will just tell her they are pups from the basjoo that just popped up. As coach Kline says "what mama don't know won't hurt her"

Re: My First Banana Plant

Mine shred all the time. I am a firm believer in using banana fuel at least once a week. It seems it speeds up the growth and pushes new leaves out more often. I am laughing because these plants...

Re: Uncovered my basjoos in Pennsylvania!

Uncovered mine in ohio a couple weeks ago. The center corm has no growth at all on all 4 plants. It is hard as a rock. Wondering if this is normal? Have about 6 pups coming up from each one though.

Re: Heads up in the NE and Great Lakes

Uncovered mine a week ago. I will cover them back up today. I had to cut down almost to ground level to find a good stem. Do you guys think I will have to cut down more after this couple week cold...

Re: Musa basjoo is growing branches!

Same here. All my pups were above ground level. I added soil and they rooted pretty quickly.

Re: Time lapse?

IfIt is strange how there is no rhyme or reason for the first plant to start having pups. My smallest basjoo pupped first. I did pour the last sip of my Coors next to it the night before. So maybe...

Re: Musa Basjoo Problems

It seems that that spot is where most of your water in the yard will drain. Could you be drowning it?

Re: What is ideal soil temperature for basjoo growth?

Don't know if this helps but mine grow faster the hotter it is. My best growing days have been 90 degrees this year

Depth of husk?

My basjoo's are doing great. Now that pups are coming up, I noticed they are not underground at all. Should I build up dirt higher around the husk? Thanks for any feedback

Re: new basjooer

I got the banana fuel from wellspring. The fish oil is off the shelf from Lowe's. I heard somewhere that it can't hurt and you can't put too much down. It's all in my head probably.
