Do I have to wait until harvest to check for weevils or there i a way to check now without damaging the plant?

Red/purple banana plant
Hi all, while driving i saw this plant and had to stop to take a couple of photos to post them here. And hopefully get an ID. The plant looked to be about 8ft tall from the earth to the intersection...
