Re: Elephant Ears

Does anyone know how long it takes for alocasia macrorrhizos bulbs to sprout? I planted two of them 3 weeks ago but nothing yet. They actually started producing roots during transportation when I had...

Re: unhappy alocasia

How quick do they grow? Just so I know what to expect. This one was bought and planted in the garden in April. It was tiny back then, only had one tiny leaf. It's in the shade after 2pm

Indeed it has! It's getting big now although not as quickly as people said. It looks healthy and happy though. Thanks

Re: Musa Basjoo in zone 8b

Where I live conditions are not good for most plants apart from the native ones obviously. Summer are hot and dry, with temperatures that reach or exceed 40 C and humidity around 20-40% at around...

Re: Musa Basjoo in zone 8b

One leaf every 5 days?? Wow. Nah, I'm nowhere near that. I'm starting to worry now. Maybe it's just the beginning? The transplanting shock still. Or perhaps the low humidity. I already have some sort...

Re: Musa Basjoo in zone 8b

Yeah it survived. I'm sure it was the sun stroke at the beginning. It's getting hotter and hotter now, it will be 37 C tomorrow and humidity will be very low, like 20% during midday, which I guess...

Re: brown patches on the leaves - sun?

Thank you Olaf. You seem very knowledgeable about bananas. I'm a novice as you can probably tell. I thought I'd have an easy job with the Greek weather on my side but I underestimated the...

Re: brown patches on the leaves - sun?

Argh, I'm so frustrated. I'm sure I put too much Miracle Gro in the soil. It wasn't a solution, it was in dry form and I mixed it into the soil. It's slow release and it releases nutrients for...

Re: brown patches on the leaves - sun?

Could it be fertilizer burn? I added slow release fertilizer in the soil I put around it. What do I do in this case?

Re: Hibernating a basjoo

What happens if you live in an area where winter minimums can be as low as -5 C but only on few days, while most winter days are much warmer, with some days up to 20 C? Will a basjoo rot if wrapped...
