With a potted Super Dwarf grown indoors how long can you expect the mother plant to live if it does not bear fruit?

I understand that eventually the mother plant dies off even if it doesn't bear...

Could having a pot that is too small for it be a reason it hasn't produced any pups? Its my first bonana and is doing very well, but no pups yet and I've had it since last July.

Thanks for your answer, yes it will stay in a container its whole life. I live in a colder climate, so i want it to get nice and large.
