Re: Winterization

I'm usually forced to do the method with lights, works quite often for me. Also the picture of the DC is very intriguing, if I am correct is the flower coming straight out of a 2ft pseudostem.

Re: What banann will grow fastest-tallest in 9 months?

A quick grower could be bordelon, reaching glowering size in 4-6 months after dying to the ground. (I think it's about 14ft)

Re: Colorado Bananas?

This may be quite a wild suggestion but musa bordelon can fruit within 6 months of dying to the ground (you would need the corm up and replant it every spring) however the fruit quality varies from...

Re: M. basjoo - should I risk transplanting in fall?

Personally I would wait till spring so the basjoos have a 6 months to grow. This might mean that they are more likely to survive the winter.

Re: Are Banana Corms Edible?

In Ethiopia they grow ensures just for the corms, I tried boiling a musa basjoo corm after hearing this, it was actually quite nice and I wasn't sick afterwards.

Re: 9 months minimum?, flower to mature fruit?

Maybe try miss bordelon, flowers within 6 months even if it has died back over winter however the quality of the fruit varies from plant to plant, so sometimes it won't be edible.

Re: Pot O' Bananas...

I think they are very hardy because they look like a musa basjoo to me (hardy banana). If they are musa basjoo they should survive in East Tennessee.
