Re: Is anyone growing near a swamp?

Here in the tropics bananas grow fine in wet mud. When planting suckers, plant in a mound so they are a bit above the water line, but once they get going they can spread out into the waterlogged mud.

Re: Water sucker worth saving?

Water suckers will not grow as fast or big as sword ones, but they will make their own next generation of sword suckers which will be fine.

Re: I'm sure I messed up

Search youtube for bananas winter bubble wrap. Instead of bubble wrap some people pile leaves around as insulation. As long as the corm survives it will grow back when it is warm again.

Re: Why Do Banana Plants Pup?

I have noticed that they pup when the main stem has its growth constrained for some reason. Maybe it is choked, or bent or broken, or fallen over, then in response a bunch of pups will come up. ...

Re: Good cover crops for bananas?

Don't plant kudzu or other climbing vines, they can kill bananas if they climb them. They twirl around the young leaves as they come out and don't let them open, they can break leaves. Other legumes...

Re: Gophers eat roots of red banana tree

Just leave it, it will grow back. As long as they didn't eat up the whole corm and there are some buds left on it, it will grow back.

If planting seeds, just sow on the surface of the soil, or at most plant just below the surface, maybe 1cm deep.

If planting corms or suckers i tend to dig quite a deep hole and put them in, then...

Re: Propagation through corm cutting

Why keep them away? They protect the banana plant from caterpillars, snails etc.

As for the corm dividing method, i have done it, nothing special, no need to remove the roots, just look for the buds...

Re: Bananas from Seed

I eat wild Musa acuminata with seeds, you have to suck off the flesh and spit out the seeds. When ripe it is very sweet and has a flavour similar to sweet soy sauce.
