Thumbs up Re: I hope they are snug

My two Basjoo's are under 6 feet of snow and have been since before the ground froze! :D It's where the plow piles all the white stuff, so there's lots of insulation. Can't wait to see what Spring...

Re: I hope they are snug

I hear you, too ... here in S. Ohio all winter we have had VERY cold temps, so snow has stayed on the ground forever. Like you, I'm just hoping that it will serve as a good insulator. This will be...

Cold I hope they are snug

Here in Missouri we are having another terrible winter. Right now we have snow again. The last batch had just melted. We have 9 inches and expecting 4-7 more on Sunday. Temps have been below zero...

Re: Rough Winter

Technically you are having a rough Fall. A ridiculous Fall and it is all spilling down here to the South. I certainly hope that WINTER is a lot nicer. My plants usually make it till mid January but...

Re: Rough Winter

I'd consider the snow cover a blessing in disguise. Hoopefully it will provide sufficient insulation for them. Good luck.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Okay, our members in Canada already beat us in giving thanks, but it's our turn in the USA now.

I have much to be thankful for: a loving supportive family, concerns over my son Michael's health have...

Re: New Guy

No, it was a nice plant, about 1 1/2 ft. tall when I put it in. The last one I have is a tissue cultured plant, grew to about 3 ft. this summer and is now in my basement going bare root.

Re: New Guy

Nothing seems as hardy as basjoo that we know of. Musella lasiocarpa and sikkimensis are supposedly pretty hardy. I had a lasiocarpa come back after a winter of heavy straw mulch. However, it was a...

Re: New Guy

If the basjoo makes it through the winter there will be no need to bring them in next year. Now for other varieties, some folks pot them up and bring em in, some bring em bare root. I do both!

Re: New Guy

Welcome from zone 6 NJ. I'd reccomend if your basjoo's p-stem ( the "trunk") is less than 6' tall overwintering indoors this year. You can simply lop the top off if it's not convenient to bring in...
