I just use the inexpensive little lights and run them until it gets above freezing. If it’s going to be below about 25, I have heating cables that are manufactured for people in the northern climates...

Re: Best winterization method for Zone 9?

I'm also in zone 9 but on the coast. Last year we had a few days at 19 degrees and my plant just started with a couple of pups that are about 9 inches tall. Can anyone tell me what I should do with...

Re: Best winterization method for Zone 9?

Those two bananas are pretty cold tolerant. The pstems will be viable down to 30. Below that, I break the leaves and fold them against the pstem. I wrap the entire pstem with folded leaves from...

California Gold is Adorable

It actually looks like a miniature version of a tall banana plant.
It retains the proportions while being short & stubby.

My best local supply store is Ewing Irrigation and Landscape Supply. They have one near you in Friendswood. Some years I have had to order the SOP from an Internet supplier.

Re: Which fertilizer is best for bananas?

I don't mix the fertilizers. I measure out and apply the urea to all the plants and then do the same thing with the MOP/SOP. I only apply the SA Minors in the beginning of the season. Then water...
