Re: My banana bunch was broken by the wind

Yes it's gone sadly. Just cut the whole pstem down and mulch it. Sooner you do it the faster the energy will go to the daughter pup.

I agree, as Steve said above the prop should go under the...

Re: My banana bunch was broken by the wind

They are most likely done for in my opinion...
It looks like you put the prop stick too far down the PS, too. Up more to where the bend is would be stronger for next time.

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

Jacq, if this happens again it would generally be better to still leave that rack in place. It will still get more developed by getting what it can from the top part of the pseudostem and may...

Re: How to prepare corms for shipping?

The above directions is how to treat and prepare corm that came from known or suspected infected fields. This is not needed to ship corms. The receiver can use other methods to treat corms...

How to prepare corms for shipping?

I read this at hawaii.edu:

"PROPAGATION
Bananas are propagated from offshoots (suckers or keikis) or corms (bullheads). If enough buds are present, large bullheads can be halved or...

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

My first FHIA-23. About 65 lbs, 9 hands, 133 fingers. A year to flower and a week over 4 months to harvest. Hoping they're better than the 17s were.

Re: Can anyone type these peppers?

By Jove, I think you nailed it! As huge sesame fan, I can't wait to try this recipe.

It appears these are open pollinated. If so, are seed from green fruits mature enough to germinate? I nibbled on...

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

Do you have any pics of the bunch with the flower hanging off the end? Preferably about a foot or so off the end? That helps a lot in identifying a plant...Best case, One pic of the whole plant, one...

Probably the most impressive bunch I've ever harvested.

70 lb. with the top 3 hands packed with 13 oz. fruit.

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

How about Veinte Cohol? They have a thin skin and tartness... Manzano (Apple banana) plump up and split when they ripen on the vine... Or did you pick them green? They just don't look like Manzano....

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

I have read good things about 17, but ones on here don't seem too impressed. Hmm?
I found a site talking about taste testing in Africa somewhere among locals and it scored high. Almost 18 months.....

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

Well, I don't know what they are! Thin skin is not Orinoco. But the shape of the fingers looks all wrong for Namwah.

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

My guess would be Orinoco also. They look like Orinoco and the stiching on the edges of the peel is an Orinoco trait.
