By cutting the p-stem do you mean cutting off all the leaves? I would tilt the plant to 45 degrees or more to keep all the leaves intact. Prop it up at the point where the pstem does not bend very...

Looking at your zone your trying to grow in, I would get a fish tank & get a sheet of glass to put on top of. Put your plant in & mount a light bulb for heat on top to increase humidity & temp.
