Re: Good fertilizer for bananas?

I most often dump the contents of a push mower bag in the center of the mat and let it cascade around naturally, spreading out the larger clumps. Sometimes for aesthetic reasons I will spread it out...

Re: Good fertilizer for bananas?

PR Giants has posted about one of the fertilizers I almost exclusively use. Grass clippings. Lots and lots of grass clippings. The banners love it and I don't give a dang about my grass anyway. In a...

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)

Hey PR,

Hope you are well. I am a special kind of person as you say. I believe the variety that you and I have debated the most about was the 3640. However, I haven't cut off the male bud this...

Re: Pisang Raja Taste Report

Can't explain the differences in eating experiences. (yours sounds better) I uprooted it and made way for a Hoa Moa. hopefully I like that one more. We shall see. If not, I'm growing more gold...

Re: FHIA-03 Sweetheart Taste Report

Just had some in my yard. Your report is just about spot on with my experience. The only other way I would describe it is as if someone blended a goldfinger with a kandarian. Goldfinger so far is...

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

Well the wind huffed and puffed and blew another bunch down last night! I had a heavy bunch of nearly ripe FHIA-3. They were supported with a "fork" i made out of 1" pvc pipe. The wind snapped the...

Re: Tu'u Ghia Taste Report

Sounds a little tricky with the fingers snapping off when green. I doubt I will get a chance to grow that one, you are lucky.

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

So the GM ripened in the garage and I just had my first finger. It tasted quite good actually. In fact I'm not discerning much of a difference from the fully ripened bunch I harvested a several...

Banana Core Quality

Anyone know what might affect the quality of the core of a banana? My recent harvest of Kandrian has a bit of a tougher core. The texture is also somewhat off. My current guess is that I harvested...

Re: Taking the Thailand chance!

Valid point. I have been tempted to go the Thai - ebay route as well. But I didn't want to pay that much for a plant.

Re: Taking the Thailand chance!

If you asked the right people on this forum, you could have been hooked up with a GM without having to purchase one from Thailand. I would try that route next time on future varieties if you can...

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

Just harvested another nice bunch of Kandrian. This bunch developed a bit differently, there are a lot of fused or partially fused fingers. You would think it had been fraternizing with mat of...

Re: Your favorite tasting bananas?

The double mahoi isn't awful, but as far as fruit goes it isn't that interesting. The multiple pendicules are one of the man reasons people grow it. The fruit isn't much better than a grocery store...

Re: Bunch Question...........

A colloquial phrase meaning a very heavy rain event. It rains so heavy that toads strangle (can't breath).

Re: Bunch Question...........

Some varieties are more prone than others. Never had them split green though. I would ask some people in your area if this is common for your area with that variety. I would try something else if...

Re: New Zabrina

You could try "X" (Cross between GRAND NAIN-X-SUMATANA) Looks very similar but larger, fuller leaves and is more hardy in my opinion. It does much better in my yard compared to the zebrina I have.

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

Out of the varieties I've grown, they are my all around favorite. I posted a taste report awhile back for this variety. The more I eat them the more I like them. I need to wait a little bit to see...
