Re: Dwarf Red in the north.

I grew a 'dwarf' red a few years back. It was one of the most robust bananas I ever grew. The p-stem was very thick and strong. The leaves were thicker than any other I had. A gust of wind that would...

Re: How do you if your sugar cane plants are dead?

Not enough water? Mine do not like to ever dry out, so I'm generous with the watering, and the litle shoots never fail to grow. Mine is the variegated Hawaiian one.

Re: What kind of variegated are these?

The variegation remembles A'e A'e, but some of the lighter areas have darker color on the 'ribs'. I'd not seen that on A'e A'e before.

Re: Blue Java Pups

Mine is barely 5 ft high, and it has 2 pups. I didn't do anything special; I just stuck it in a very large pot (our lousy soil is mostly clay), and up they came.

Re: Still Curious

The easy way to distinguish a GM is the red-tinged wide open petioles. I couldn't tell for sure on your photos, but I don't think yours has...

Re: Not banana-related, but I am dumbfounded at this!

Perhaps it is a listing with the collusion of Amazon where they are attempting to discourage anyone from buying it. The best way for them to do such a thing would be to have some sort of code in that...

Re: Worrisome leaves- BBTV and BSV?

Aphids are moved around by ants; they are like cattle for the ants. The ants move them to prime 'grazing' areas, then feed off the 'honeydew' that they exude out the back.

Re: How to block a banned user/scammer?

If there is an ACL (access control list) for the interface these connections come from, I am thinking that a block could be do-able.

Re: Worrisome leaves- BBTV and BSV?

Any nanners within 4 feet are at risk from what I've read in the past.

Re: Super Dwarf Cavendish Pups

Oh, I'm interested, but I'd not be able to bring them into this state. These guys are extremely 'anal' about getting any new diseases.

Re: How to block a banned user/scammer?

I've never seen those names b-4.

(for all I know I may be fake, too. Nope, it still feels like the real me)

Re: Worrisome leaves- BBTV and BSV?

Looks like it has the narrow leaves, the j-hooks are obvious, and showing some of the 'morse-code' appearance, too. The pups look good. If it has the virus, it may not even show for up to 5 months....

Re: Anybody else in Hawaii?

Well, there's Gabe, and I think RobGuz is on another island. I'm on Oahu, but only have a very small number of plants at this point. I think there are 2 others, too, but can't recall who. just do a...

Re: What the most Awesome Package you got Today?

The most awesome package? Actually, it came yesterday. It was a box with a Potinara Fortune Teller 'Lucky Alicia'. It is an orchid in the cattleya group. Had plenty of stems (strong plant), and two...

Re: Flag on a dwarf chamaluco!

The leaves appear to emerge almost in the same plane as the previous ones. Only seen that once before. Nice growing!

Re: Seeking 1000 fingers, variegated ice cream, and siam ruby

Never knew of a variegated 'Ice Cream' banana. I'd love to see one myself.

Re: How do you if your sugar cane plants are dead?

I've never seen any with a triangular hole in the center. Ours are all completely solid all the way through. I don't know that the difference is.

Re: Looking for double mahoi tree. Florida Hill failure

Hawaii tends to be pretty strict about any bananas coming in to the state due to the BBTV risk. Gabe could fill you in, I'm sure, or you could check the state's website for more info. You don't want...

Re: Weed's??

When I was kid we had black walnut trees popping up everywhere thanks to the squirrels. The little buggars bury them all over, and sometimes forget about their stash.

Re: Looking for Dwarf Blue Java

The last time I saw one with a bunch hanging off of it, the p-stem was about 9-10 feet up. Not to thick in the middle, though, and Gabe recommends propping it.

Re: I'm back.

Sometimes life throws big things at you. Duck, regroup, and keep moving - preferably forward.

Re: Looks like I may not receive my order from Florida Hill Nursery.

That used to be referred to as a 'bucket shop'; the money comes in, goes into the bucket, and you never see it (or any product) again.
