Re: Bunchy Top Virus Spread Through 5 Species

There's no bunchy top on the mainland, so I wouldn't worry about this.

Re: Nahiku, Maui here, not far from Hana

Kahuna Gardens and Mahele Farm next to it are great sources of keiki. No bunchy top there yet! Kahuna has let me dig keiki myself. I gave them a donation of approximately $25 per keiki.

Re: Taiwan banana trip

Fascinating post. Had my first trip to Taiwan last fall, but never got off the beaten path. Wondered if there were any native musa there.

Re: Hawaii was not as Musa diverse as I thought it would be

Oh yeah, the other road remains open. Nothing past that closed road except 700 homes under lava. Let me know if you return!

Bananarama Cottage: Banana-themed vacation rental in Hawaii

I've mentioned this before, but with lots of new members in the past few years, thought I'd do so again.

I own a banana-themed vacation rental here on the Puna coast of the Big Island. I grow about...

Re: I Built a Gay Computer

Ah, the rainbow. Sorry didn't read it all. It's funny/sad here in Hawaii the University teams used to be the Rainbow Warriors, with rainbows on the football helmets. The oversensitive players got...

Re: Sweetheart - Months to Flower and Harvest

Where I am in Hawaii, I recently had 2 on the same mat fruit one month apart. One took a few days over 4 months, the other a few days over 5 months. Was surprised by the 4 monther.

Re: Dwarf Brazilian Taste Test Results

Hmmm, nothing about that looks anything like a Brazilian I've ever seen. Especially with that color, I'm thinking it must be something else.

Re: Iholena??

I'm guessing these are Mai'a Iholena aka Iholena Iholena aka Dwarf Iholena. My understanding is Agristarts started tissue culturing these after obtaining material from here on the Big Island. This is...

Re: What is your favotrite banana?

Yeah, the 3 I've had are similar. The first Muraru Mulalu bunch I had I didn't love, but the 2nd was excellent. Years of growing the Mshale and I've never gotten it to fruit. The Huti grows well too....

Re: Iholena??

Probably the most important factor in IDing Iholenas is whether or not there is any red or pink on the underside of leaves, especially when they first unfurl. If not, then it's certainly less likely...

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

World's most pathetic Pitogo bunch. At least they taste better than the only one other undeveloped Pitogo bunch I've grown. Between bunchy top and rot I don't have much luck with Pitogo.

Re: Aloha

They're wrong. Not even close. Those purplish pedicels are characteristic of Namwah and a few others. Sucrier group bananas such as Kluay Khai don't have that, and the stalk is a unique yellow-green...
