The GMs I have left are still alive but looking awful. Hopefully they'll do better this spring and won't get smashed again.

Re: Leaves?

Correct. At some point the oldest/older leaves will lose their integrity and start their process of falling off the plant. You can leave them or remove them if you don't like how they look. It is...

Re: What should I do?

One of the four bananas I found after Isaac looks like it went through a furnace. What's wrong with this banana again?

Re: cut or not to cut

I recently harvested some Orinoco that had the flower still on and one of them weighed almost 200 lbs. With exception to one that broke off, they all had their flowers still on (there are 2 more I...

Re: Hurricane Isaac vs Nanna's

I managed to find 4 of the 12 or so little Gros Michel and Double Mahoi bananas I lost in Isaac's storm surge (they were at my father-in-law's house, up high but not high enough). I'm going to go...

Re: Gros Michel

The Gros Michel (and Dble Mahoi) I got from Terry (Chance1945) are possibly all gone thanks to a higher than we thought it would be storm surge from Hurricane Isaac.

I've planted some smaller than those. Super Dwarf Cavendish. I don't recall how tall they get but it can't be more than 3 feet I think.

From what I know these are mature...

Re: tall red cold damage

The Black Thai is exposed. No protection. It gets sun but not full sun. It competes with Ornata and a Saba. Soon it will be getting much less sun as it isn't coming so over the middle of the yard...

Re: Tropical Ohio

It's not amazing as it should be, having one do well in Ohio, but I've never been able to get a Maurelli to grow worth a damn. Sweet yard though! Nice!

Re: tall red cold damage

I see that you and I are in the same zone but that doesn't mean a whole lot when lows can vary. I lost maybe 2% of the bananas I had after the hard freezes of '010 when it got down to 18F here in...

Re: Gallons of Water for a Mature Banana Plant

Ha ha. That's silly - you're in a drought and you're watering more often than not? What would give me the impression you wouldn't water at all (the 'not' part) during a drought? OF COURSE you're...

Re: Plant size and leaning
