Re: Who is still here?

Yes still in Hawaii. I have a 35acre farm, usually somewhere around 150 varieties not counting my breeding projects which can add a few hundred more periodically before I make my selections....

Re: Grow banana tree from banana

This and many other similar videos are just click-bait trash. There isn't even a glimmer of reality in any of it, the videos are just designed to mesmerize you so watch, and then as views pile up,...

Re: already fruitified plant corm for macropropagation?

It depends on the exact technique you are using, but they are not ideal for macropropagation. Better to use younger shoots around 4-6" diameter at the base. Previously fruited corms can be dug out...

Re: Bunchy top paranoia

BBTV isn't known to be present in FL, so if you had it you would be the first ever, which is extraordinarily unlikely.

In looking at your photos, you definitely do not have BBTV. To me it looks...

Re: Bunchy top paranoia

Where are you located? Are you sure its even BBTV you are dealing with?

BBTV is only spread by the banana aphid feeding on infected plants and then moving to non-infected plants, not on tools,...

Re: Unknown Variety - Help Identifying

It's clearly Orinoco. It's rather malnourised, needs some more fert, water, or both.

Re: Banana domestication

Polyploid simply means any ploidy level (number of sets of chromosomes) more than diploid (2 sets) which is considered the standard base level. Polyploids could be triploid, tetraploid, pentaploid,...

Re: Musa Nono... real or photoshopped?

It is very much a real plant, I was on the scientific team who discovered and documented it for the scientific community in PNG in 2016, and I have personally documented and photographed a number of...

Re: Most productive banana?

Yield is a complex metric, as it involves not only how much fruit you get per bunch, but also how many bunches per year which is ultimately a function of suckering production behavior and pruning...

Re: MIL Gave us a PUP and its now flowering

From the one photo looks like Namwah so far, but still a bit young to be 100% confident. Post another photo in a few weeks and keep the male bud on.

Re: Does anyone know what Logees is selling as their Dwarf Lady Finger?

It’s a somewhat smaller ‘Dwarf Cavendish’ variant. I’ve grown it before, far underperforming compared to more standard type ‘Dwarf Cavendish’, but not awful if you are super space limited. Seems more...

Re: Blue Java? Need help to Identify this one

Definitely not Blue Java, but also not Namwah which it is typically mixed up with. Looks more like Dwarf Brazilian, but with some odd traits, could just be a tissue culture off-type, or the result of...

Re: Looking for help on id of this one.

It's either Dwarf Brazilian or Raja Puri, they are almost the same and often very difficult to tell apart unless growing side by side. If I had to choose though Id lean towards Dwarf Brazilian as...
