Re: Musa itinerans 'India Form' for sale

I have to say that I am surprised at how few people are buying this. It’s almost never available, and I have it in stock. $25 seems pretty reasonable to me for a rare Musa species.

Re: Musa itinerans var. itinerans is having a good year!

Looks exactly like the one I grew as Musa thomsonii years ago. Beautiful plant!

I've seen people searching for shark's teeth in Hogtown Creek. You can find them there!

Re: Musa itinerans var. itinerans is having a good year!

I lost my thomsonii many years ago. I had it growing here in FL at my folks house (I was still living in TN) and it was severely neglected. I think Dad killed it with the lawnmower.

Re: Musa itinerans var. itinerans is having a good year!

Randy, I moved out of that house over a decade ago, and have been lugging the itinerans around with me in a pot ever since then, lol. It’s still alive, and I live in FL now, so it’s going back in...

Re: Rot issues on garage stored plants

Watering needs to go from "minimal" to ZERO. Corms must be kept cool and dry when dormant.

Yes, I banned them too, if they weren't already. It was quite satisfying when it asked "prune 486 threads?" Yes! LMAO! I didn't even look in the other forums. Thanks, harvey. Hopefully this...

Re: Birth of a New Hybrid Musa: Musa sp. aff. aurantiaca (Trebrown seeds) x velutina

No, they all died. I'll attempt the cross again sometime though, since I still have both parents. I think my light may have been part of the problem. It is a metal halide, but not a grow light. ...

Re: Floating/Sinking seeds?

Section Callimusa seeds do float naturally, whether viable or not. Generally if seeds float, it means they are no good, but it's not always the case.

Re: Birth of a New Hybrid Musa: Musa sp. aff. aurantiaca (Trebrown seeds) x velutina

Yeah, my enthusiasm seeing them germinate was definitely tempered by realizing what time of year it was. I knew the challenging part would be to get even one through the winter.

I have been...

Re: Birth of a New Hybrid Musa: Musa sp. aff. aurantiaca (Trebrown seeds) x velutina

Re: Cleaning Banana Seeds

Austin, in the past I have let them soak in some water for a week or more, letting the fruit ferment a little. Then shake them up really well, get in there with a fork or other utensil and try and...

Re: Birth of a New Hybrid Musa: Musa sp. aff. aurantiaca (Trebrown seeds) x velutina

That's correct, Austin. In order to make M. velutina the female parent, one would need to cut the immature anthers off of the flower before the pollen came close to ripening. Since M. velutina has...

Re: Birth of a New Hybrid Musa: Musa sp. aff. aurantiaca (Trebrown seeds) x velutina

I never expected those seeds to germinate. I just didn't have the heart to throw them away! I wasn't sure if I'd ever get the conditions to make that cross again. I'm glad I kept them, and even...

Re: Harvested too early, or are these seeds viable?

They should be. I've germinated them out of fruit that wasn't quite ripe. Looks good to me!
