Looking at the compactness of the leaves, I would say that this is a Truly Tiny. Unless you have been growing it indoors. A SDC that has less than ideal growing conditions will grow it's leaves...

For the fire ants try the diatomaceous earth is it is not a chemical and non toxic. You could also try Borax. If you mix it with whatever the ants eat it will kill them.
