Re: Hybrid Loquats? Who's got them!

Re: Fixing micronutrient deficiency

Aye, I would stop changing the environment and get some good data before you make a potentially lethal mistake. I suspect I am not the only person who has killed plants trying to correct a suspected...

Re: How much water for a new 25 gallon pot?

I found a recent read to be relevant to this topic: The Stuff of Thought, Language as a Window into Human Nature by Steven Pinker. I find it utterly fascinating, and I *highly* recommend it for...

Re: How much water for a new 25 gallon pot?

It's basically just compost using a layering method. The dark, water retaining soil in the style of the jungle/forest floor is the goal. Again, increasing the ratio of organic matter to dirt/sand...

Re: How much water for a new 25 gallon pot?

I use the index finger method, sometimes going half a foot or up to a foot with a small hand trowel. If it looks/feels like sand, I add water. Sand makes up most of the soil in florida by far; I...

Re: Pure sulphur for bananas ?

I been using pure S in my garden for years. It's effective for controlling some kinds of rot and repelling certain insects and small animals. Cheap, too.

Re: Fertilizers for Florida

Fixing the sandy soil situation would be my first priority if you plan to be there for any length of time. Layering the soil with compost, leaves, manure, mulch, etc will build up a nice flora/fauna...

Re: Small spot of rot near base of plant....HELP

You can get wettable dusting sulfur that's about 90% pure elemental sulfur from any good farm supply store cheap. Some rot it kills; some it does not. It will repel some insects but not kill them. ...

I have lots of experience with spider mites, aphids, thrips/chili thrips, and white flies. Out here, due to rainy seasons, soapy water sprays rarely work. Malathion is relatively short lived in the...
