I planted the two surviving Thai Papaya plants I started last Summer(the rest were eaten by Possums in the greenhouse. The 3 least damaged I brought onto the f porch and dragged them in the house...

Re: Is planting garlic near a banana plant a bad idea?

It's neither. They don't share Pests and the scent isn't transportable through the soil...otherwise, I'd have had prety nasty Sweet peppers last yr;>!

Re: 'Viente Cohol' Arrived!

And Spring here in the Florida Panhandle is a bit earlier! I made the 1st of two orders to them before Last Frost so I could have been on the list as early as January-February. Since I'm not a bit...

Re: 'Viente Cohol' Arrived!

Not really. They're a business, not a botanical non-profit. If you didn't pay anything, they have no responsibility to give you the product at the old price, ESP. after a yr or more! Most vendors...

Re: 'Viente Cohol' Arrived!

It's true that I've ordered from them before, so at least they know I can come up with the cash;>. AS someone whose run a mailorder business, one of my biggest "Pains" were folks that demanded much...

Re: 'Viente Cohol' Arrived!

Have no idea. Last Spring I ordered a couple of Bananas(Dwarf Namwa, SH3240 and FHIA23?)and asked to be put on the list. I sent in an order last week for a Rajah Puri but added the extra amt in case...

Re: Just in Case Anyone is Wondering what happened to my Veinte Cohols . . .

I'd heard 'GB' had an entire TC batch die off earlier this yr. I know I haven't heard where I sand and I went on the list a yr ago last week!

Re: Help with Alocasia Macrorrhizos "Blck Stem"

Mine grows well under the conditions of other "Taroes" and is hardy here in z8b. Partial Sun(for good colour), water every 3rd day, fertilize with a slow release at manufacturerer's directions. Can't...

So Far So Good!

This is my 2nd yr growing this cultivar and have been very Impressed. Strong growth the 1st yr, handled Dormancy in an unheated shed without difficulty and has put out 3 new leaves in the last month!...

SH3640 Experiences

I had high hopes for this one. The 1st yr the pup grew rapidly, literally dwarfing the competition. An attractive plant as a juvenile with Maroon splashes on the leaves.
It spent the Winter in...

Re: I think I have lost my most prized plant.

It's possible, but it's just as likely that a few hitched a ride indoors and settled down for a WInter snarf. I've never had luck Wintering Inside. This WInter I did half dry stored in a shed that...

Re: Fhia-23

Mine is about as Vigorous as my Dwarf Namwa. The one I'm very dissapointed with is SH2340. LAst yr it grew quickly and did well(I thought) in the greenhouse over the WInter but as soon as I planted...

Re: Lotus?

The American Lotus(Nelumbo lutea) that grows locally is in the most Stagnant, nasty water you'd rather NOT wade through. My ASian Lotuses grow in those 20 gallon rope buckets, filled to a third with...

Re: 1 mo. old looking shaky

I would take it out of it's pot and inspect the roots and corm for rot. If so, cut off and allow to dry at least overnight, then repot DRY for a day then water normally. An adult can pretty much...

Re: Fhia-23

It's about 6 ft tall not and still has Maroon splashes, though not as large. The cold weather has pretty much stopped all growth of everything except winter veggies and, of course weeds!

Pat

Re: Potting up for winter - problem?

I think it's pretty normal. All of mine that I'm keeping Containerized their 1st yr wilt a bit after being Potted up. I keep them in the Shade and moist(but not wet) and within a couple of days they...

This is mine's 1st yr, but I can report that it's a good edition to one's Banana collection. Fast growing but not spindly with maroon-splashed leaves(something the catalogue didn't mention and...

Pine Island at least points out that some need a Pollenator. Mine came from a mail-order nursery that didn't. For yrs I thought it was my fault that it wouldn't produce. 'Course, it still doesn't...
