Re: First Banana Blue Java or not?

After tasting the bananas I am beginning to wonder if this is an Manzano or Apple banana. They taste best when they start browning and the skin is paper thin. When slightly green they have a bit of...

Re: Fastest Growing Banana Variety

Same here. I thought I just had a bad plant.

So far the Namwah is the fastest growing for me. TC to flower in 11 months here in zone 8b.

Re: Time to Harvest?

I tried two, one very ripe like the one in the picture and one that was yellow but with a bit of green. The yellow-green one was short on flavor, approaching no flavor at all.

The yellow one with...

Re: Time to Harvest?

Never mind on this one. I got a ladder and touched one of the yellow ones. It popped off in my hand.

I also learned a valuable lesson. Do not try to hold the banana bunch by the flower end stem...

Time to Harvest?

This was identified as a possible Namwah. It was suppose to be a blue java.
Should I harvest now?

Manzano-Apple Bloom?

Here is the second banana to bloom. This one is suppose to be an Apple.

This bloom is long and skinny as compared to the Namwah bloom. It is probably twice as long

The plant looks very much like...

Re: help me choose my next plant!:D

I am going to dwarfs simply because they are smaller and easier to cold protect here in zone 8b.

Re: Bloom size correlate to harvest size?

I had wondered the same thing about bloom size.

I have an observation that may be true but I don't have enough experience to back it up. As a hand forms under a bud petal, it draws energy from...

Re: Dispose of excess pups

The key though is too keep them removed which can be a weekly affair. By the way, all my suckers got to the rose bed. Roses love banana plants, bananas and banana skins. They will bloom like crazy.

Manzano or maybe not

My Apple looks like a flag leaf is coming out. Now the drama begins again as the bloom follows to see if it is an Apple or not.

Re: Florida Hill Nursery?

I wish Wellspring had a better selection.

One point about the cheap TC places. It does offer a newbie like me a chance to give it a go without breaking the bank open.

Florida Hills plants have...

I actually ordered an ice cream but am pleased it turned out to be Namwah.

It does have a support but oddly you can barely see the 1 1/2" PVC pipe in the picture. Thanks for mentioning the support...

Thanks for the help. In the morning I will see if I can get a good stem picture.

Even if it is a Namwah, I wanted to try one of those anyway.
