Poster: bigdog (see this users gallery) One psedustem has started growing well, while the other is floundering. It has sprouted two pups though. Both pseudostems were protected last winter.

Neither! When the plant was very young, I damaged it accidentally by spraying it with insecticidal soap in a sprayer that had previously contained Roundup (Whoops!). A pup emerged and quickly caught up the the mother pseudostem. Couldn't even tell you which one is the mother p-stem now.
