This specimen has recovered from a recent hurricane. The hurricane bent the entire crown in half. The tree stood standing and has grown a few new fronds over the past nine or so months. As each downed frond turned brown, they were then removed one by one. This gave the remaining functional fronds better lighting, but more importantly, it also allowed the plant to recover all of the nutrients from the downed frond and at the same time continue to produce food with it.
I thought I would loose this tree the morning after the hurricane, once I saw how badly damaged it was.
