Doesn't happen very often. While individual plants can flower when under particular stress, this species flowers gregariously, which means they all flower at roughly the same time......actually can be over a span of years. I believe all, or most all, the nigra cultivars currently in trade come from the last flowering which if I remember correctly was about 50 years ago or so....don't quote me on that....so it will be interesting to see if any survive or if it will be a complete restart via seeds
