20'+ high, clump-forming, vigorous growth in humid USDA Hardiness Zone 8b. Had this clump at least 20 yrs. Fruits most yrs it gets enough rain & I throw fertilizer on it. Fruits in groups of 18-20-something bananas; when ripe (usually not till after cutting the stalk sometime in the fall), 6-8" long, fat, and yellow. Fatter than grocery store bananas and a lot more flat-sided. Taste.....sweet, but not quite as sweet as fully ripe gro store variety, and not real aromatic with banana flavor. By contrast, our ornamental lavendar-flowering bananas have inedible, seedy, thumb-sized fruits with INTENSE banana aroma. Smell is heavenly; but not much flesh to eat. This mystery one; plenty flesh to eat, not very much smell. In other words....this mystery one's kind of bland-tasting. Am looking for some other, better-tasting varieties. Ideally, if we can grow it here, I'd love to have a Cuban-style cooking plantain and what people call an "ice cream" banana. I would like help with i.d. of this mystery one so incredibly common in my area for decades.....primarily, so as not to end up with it again. Thanks in advance, fellow frugivorists...... Smile
