OK, gang. I'm a total newbie, and just bought my first banana tree from a lady who had it lying around the corner of her shadehouse. No ID, but we're in Chattanooga TN and I'm thinking maybe it's a cavendish. She said last year it bore small but really sweet bananas--(can these be cavendish?) The tree is potted, and stands about the height of my Honda Fit--i.e. not very tall yet. The leaves are solid green, not mottled, and about 18" long. The male bud is hanging on a rachis about 14" long, and looks really sad. The stems on the little nanners have blackened, and don't look like they're gonna mature. **But at least I know the tree can bear** Now to find out the species...if any of you can guess from these poor photos, my hat's off to ya.
