here you can see where a swarm of honey bees have taken control of this hummingbird feeder. the humming birds have seemed to stop fighting each other and have been trying for the last two weeks to remove them by force.. what can be done to stop them??? i can think of several things to stop them, but i wont intervene .

i will leave them alone. i will let them feed as much as they want before the season is over and they have to rest. even tho we love and enjoy the hummingbirds realistically the honey bees are way more important, and they need to get thru the winter .

Our hummingbird feeder has little removable bee guards. They are little yellow, plastic, mesh boxes that keep the bees too far away to get the sugar water, but short enough that the hummingbirds can reach through with their long bills and tongues to get at it. We actually took them off because we don't have very many bees around, and the orioles can't get at the sugar water through the guards.
