i planted about 20 pineapples.. mostly Tropicana gold. most have established root systems and are growing fine. i just trimmed some of the top growth here ..

they are a lot easier to get started than some banana corms. i just take away the flesh or anything that could promote rot and or feed bad bacteria.. i stripped everything down to the material that looks like a corm, and i washed them. i let them dry out for a few hours and planted them... the white corm like material ..this is where the roots will pop out..

everyone has their own idea about getting them started. i took me very little time to put them in the ground.. not expecting a miracle, and i wont baby them..im experimenting in this hot weather thats all..

Sometimes that's the easiest way to root cuttings. I have great success rooting pineapple cuttings in water and full sun except the last one. So I did the same thing you did and simply stick it in the ground. I don't see why it wouldn't root. Smile

if you put it directly in the ground.. it would help if it was a day or two before some rain.. they seem to do better with pushing out roots after rain. the hose seems not to do anything. the rain does it.
