I got that in a magazine and scanned it, I was so Impressed I had to have it. But it was also the crystal clear water (Borneo) that also Impressed me.
I was creating a page on Malaysia at the time. It seemed idea, it also makes a great background image.
Also he is testing out the water prior to fishing for fish which we now know they do.

Surprised am I that orangutans eat fish. You explain, in your other reply to Kevin, that building palm plantation is the reason why they face extinction. Do orangutans eat fish because palm planations also destroy their food source, mostly fruit?

Probably,
If the trees were not logged then the Orangutan would stay even if the trees bore no fruit...its their home..or it was. In the forests they could eat Insects etc. they do not frequent the forest floor, or rarely, they need to climb its why they have such long arms.
Fishing is something new for the Orangutan, and as you say could be the lack of their normal diiet (fruit trees) that drives them on to find a new source of food.

We have to remember also that Orangutans share our DNA so they are not without ideas.
A lot of Orangutans now live in rescue to make certain they are not lost forever. We in the UK have BOS...Borneo Orangutan Survival run by Lone who has saved so many Orangutans its not real.
BOS have in their care an Orangutan named Kesi who had a hand chopped off to get him from his mother, the mothers are murdered for their young. He is doing fine with one hand but may be the reason they keep him is he may be at risk.

Thank you, Orinoko,for your outstanding effort.
I watched the video twice and read both articles. According to one article, orangutans have 97% the same DNA as humans, which proves them to be intelligent and able to quickly adapt to the changing environment. And not until I watched the video, did I know orangutans are gentle.
My heart goes out to Kesi...I hope he continues to do well and may someday be released back into the nature, a safe one.
First time I hear about BOS UK; it is a great organization. There have been so many natural disasters all over the world. It would be ideal if any harm going to either humans or animals could stop.
