hardy pomegranate. here are rooted clippings of cultivars imported directly into the united states for research.. of all 40 + varieties that were tested from former soviet union/Russia and Iran some thrive better than others.. Georgia has dry intense heat in the summer, cold wet winters, and late frosts.. im sold on any good fruit that can thrive here with little or no intervention.

this research project was started a long time ago and set aside. now it seems every sports/energy drink manufacturer features this fruit. now things may kick back up?? i would have loved to move grass for all 40 + cultivars . there are approx 20 cultivars from the original USDA Russian/Iranian research project offered currently to the public.. the four im growing are supposedly a few of the better cultivars from the research that survived here with no intervention. some sweet, and some tart.

1)al-sirin-nar 2)afganski 3)bala miursal 4)alk pust ghermez saveh
maybe raules is familiar with at least the names of a few of these?? #2 im sure the name may indicate that it came from across the Afghanistan border into Russia ..#4 is from Iran it basically means the fruit is red,and its telling you what specific area the plant originated.

Ron --- you hit the nail on the head. Those of us who live in areas not quite so tropic, and that includes me in 9b, have to start thinking beyond cold tolerant to cold hardy. No more tropical tropical for me. This years new trees are Persimmon and Tropic Beauty peach. Also Florida blueberries. And the naners are mostly dwarf now so they can be covered up.
