why is my newly transplanted banana not growing?? if the top is brown or black cut untill u see green.


this photo shows the anatomy of a choking/blow out incident. see how the new leaf spear is wadded up?? it was trying to push out the inactive material.. yep the top of the plant dies and new growth is pushing up behind it... this can occur any time of the year, not just in cold weather.. there can be several reasons for this phenomenon. if i did not intervene the new leaf would eventually burst out the side of the p- stem. more of the plant's energy would have been lost in the process..


this is a post transplant scenario.. i hypothesize the choking in this case was caused by too much leaf material and not enough root to sustain it.. keep in mind the p-stem is considered leaf material too. i had to remove the excessive leaf material and even things out. so when tranplanting suckers..if you dont take enough root dont think you can always keep all of your top growth.
