I have been growing Musa-Basjoos for the last eight years on Bainbridge Island, WA. The way to successfully Wintering over is to use electrical water pipe tape. Wrap banana stalks with burlap first (http://www.daybag.com/info/contact.html). I use 5' wide rolls cut to length. Then I weave the two 15' tapes around the stalks starting from top to bottom. Small bananas just get burlap. Plug them in to plug strip cover with a bucket and plug in when weather gets below freezing. Works Great!

Wow! This is my first year that I'm going to overwinter my banana plant outside. That's a great idea.
