This is the new plant food for my banana plants: Alaska All-Purpose (5lb. box dry powder). I purchased it from Lowe's store for $9.99. I found it on Lowe's web site for the same price. This is part of my quest to find a cheap/adequate plant food from one of the "Big Box" stores. This seems like a great all-natural alternative to the synthetic Miracle-grow-type plant food. It mixes up into a black frothy mixture that requires frequent remixing. It has a fowl and pungent odor once mixed. I have been using this for about two weeks and my plants have never looked better. This plant food is somewhat stronger then my previous choice of product.

I'm sure they love the nitrogen. You'll also want to give your fruiting bananas a potash supplement, 1.5 parts potash for each 1 part nitrogen. So for example, each 1 lb of 9-4-4 would be supplemented with 1 lb of something rated 0-0-9.

You paid $10 for 5-lb x 9% Nitrogen, that's $22 per net pound of Nitrogen.
