Had the same problem with some of my tender leaves. I found that the cluprit on my plants was that garden slugs or snails were dining on the tender (un-opened) leaves during their nocturnal feeding cycles. Then when the leaves opened they looked identical to yours. I had erroneously thought that I was sun burning the unopenecd new leaf spikes; but catching the buggers in the act proved otherwise.

Yeah, I've seen those damn Japanese beetles around recently, but they haven't seemed to do any damage that I've seen. This sucks cause my poor Maurelii has had a hard enough life as it is and was finally starting to look nice again Sad
