Chong, it's hard to tell, but it looks like the soil is too wet and maybe could have used more perlite. How cold did it get this winter? I've only got down to 28F-30F the past two winters but about 30 days of frost each and both of my plants came back fine. One had a lean that remained partially green all winter this past year.
Who did you get your plant from?

It's been several weeks since I last watered it, and the top 1", or so was dry, before I watered it too. It is the fact that the soil was not drying out that prompted me to check the soil and if the roots weren't dead, I would have potted it up to a 25 gallon pot, or even outside in the ground.
Outside the greenhouse, it didn't get below 24°F, but inside the greenhouse it doesn't get below 50°F. Like I said in previous posts they were right next to the 5 TX Stars from TX, and about the same spot from the year before. Although in the year before, there were more plants beside it, but the exposure is about the same. In that year before, it was next to a Zebrina. The Zebrina corm went mush, but the CA Gold actually flourished last year and produced at least 5 or 6 new leaves.
As I mentioned before in prior posts, Joe R gave me the plant.

Thanks. I couldn't remember some of those details and thought it would just be easier to ask again. As I wrote you privately before, Joe Real had given me his large Cal Gold in June 2007 but the psuedostem was 9'1" tall when it flowered so there is a chance it is actually something else or just mutated. I don't think Joe mislabeled anything but Jeff Earl did provide an explanation as to how a couple of mix-ups did happen one year due to some vandalism/theft at his garden (since straightened out).
That said, my remaining pup from the supposed Cal Gold I got from Joe did over-winter in the ground quite well this past winter. We had about 5 inches of rain in one week in January so the ground was cold and wet.
I hope you can get another. If I've got one to spare by the end of the summer I'll send you one.
