Thanks, Richard. Rorywest and I were PMing about his plant collection in Samoa, whereupon he mentioned a Syzygium species from Fiji that had banana shaped fruits and sweet. It kinda piqued my curiosity, so I looked at the net for a photo, and that was the only one I could find. Apparently, a small shrub and can be container grown. Now, I have to get seeds of these!

According to Rory, the banana shaped fruits are edible, in fact, sweet and fragrant, even. But he says that it is very fibrous and "better made into necklace". I would presume that he meant that they make them into "leis".
