Re: Container TC Pups, slow growth/ Care Tips

I rarely have a goal of growing the fruit so have never tried to maximize that. I have grown fruit anyway but mainly I have just grown the plants for propagation (and not much of that in a few...

Re: Experimenting with creating filtered coarse sand for corms

Here's three Florida Variegated corm/nub experiments, in sand well washed to get the majority of fines out, a pretty coarse mix. They are being kept in a warm, humid environment, bright, but...

Re: Container TC Pups, slow growth/ Care Tips

I have been slowly increasing my musa collection the past few years, and overall, I would say, there is no comparison to TC plants, and corms I have purchased. The vigor, strength, and viability in...

Re: Experimenting with creating filtered coarse sand for corms

I spent a lot of time the past few days, standing out in my stream, washing wheelbarrow loads of sand, to get a lot of the fines out. I now will be watching some corms I planted the next few weeks...

Re: Variegated Musa wanted - possible rare Figs for trade

Hi, thanks for asking about Figs. Just like musa there are hundreds and hundreds of types - green figs, black figs, yellow figs, etc etc. Many different flavor profiles. Tons of info online,...

Re: Container TC Pups, slow growth/ Care Tips

Foxhound, you're thinking about it incorrectly. The newer leaves are not sending the energy they harvest to the older leaves, but vice versa, the older leaves are sending what they harvest from...

Re: Growing Bananas at 8000 feet/searching for A'ea'e

Compare the last leaf to emerge in the August photo to each and every new leaf that appeared by the November photo and you should be able to determine that the problem started around the first week...

Whilst I have no trade for you I am interested in learning about your figs, I'm in the UK and just have the standard Turkish fig and never knew there were rare ones, what have you got and are they...

Re: Growing Bananas at 8000 feet/searching for A'ea'e

For us newer growers, what in the bottom picture cues you in to the downward spiral?

I could only see a slight drooping on the leaves which is usually caused (in my very warm and very humid area)...

Re: Experimenting with creating filtered coarse sand for corms

So in a way, its basically a semi-aeroponic system.

That's crazy cool. I've seen your posts on this before, but how did you come up with this method?

Re: Growing Bananas at 8000 feet/searching for A'ea'e

Thank you for these diagrams.

One note, in this thread, when I refer to "A'ea'e, and "Florida" - this is what they were sold to me as. I have not fruited either mother plant so will never be sure...

Re: Growing Bananas at 8000 feet/searching for A'ea'e

Re: Is there any way to encourage the growth of pups on my Musa Tanee?

Thanks. I believe this is pupping relatively early since it has only been actively growing around 2 months, forming a tiny pup at the base probably about an inch long off the corm. I did fertilize it...

Re: Is there any way to encourage the growth of pups on my Musa Tanee?

Can't speak to this variety, but bananas in general respond to fertilizer. However the affect is usually not immediate. In addition some varieties tend to pup early in the life cycle, and others more...
