Re: Veinte Cohol Pups Arrived - It Begins!

Yeah It's been extremely slow. Also a flood of bots posting suspicious links too.

Re: False Ice Cream ID

Thank you very much for your replies!

That building is around 9-10ft high. The bunch hangs about 1-1,5meters(3-5ft) above the building. So i guess that makes the banana pseudo stem around...

Re: False Ice Cream ID

Height isn't reliable as an identifying trait unfortunately, a ±2 foot difference from average is common.

Fruit size and fill is also highly variable depending on growth conditions, so it's a...

Re: False Ice Cream ID

By chance could you tell us how tall the building next to the plant is? As an American, I had to convert the meters into feet, and you said it looks about 14.5-ish. To me, if that building is an...

False Ice Cream ID

I believe its probably a Pisang Awak variety but wanted to check and if possible reach a variety ID as well?
The plant reaches 4,5 meters pseudo stem height. Its probably the same colorful plant that...

Re: Edible Musa collected in Sarawak Borneo

Yep, the picture you labeled "female flowers" shows a trait pretty specific to Pisang Awak types (as far as I know.) The pedicels are purplish when freshly emerged, but that color doesn't last very...

Re: Edible Musa collected in Sarawak Borneo

To my eyes it seems to be Pisang Awak/Namwa, and I'll walk through my thought process.

Petiolar canal- closed
Bracts- lifting with minimal rolling
Bunch density/position- relatively compact with...

Re: Growing Bananas at 8000 feet/searching for A'ea'e

Interesting thread, thanks for posting.

What you're trying to do is fairly simple and I've been giving away a'ea'e cuttings like that for years. I've only had one client that was unsuccessful and...

Re: Growing Bananas at 8000 feet/searching for A'ea'e

Thank you so much for your advice - I'm in no way any sort of musa expert, but am an experienced hobbyist, and have sprouted many corms like this the over the years - BUT, this is an A'ea'e!! ...

Re: Growing Bananas at 8000 feet/searching for A'ea'e

If my eyes do not deceive me that piece of the corm closest to your palm can be sprouted. Treat it with fungicide and plant in perlite or coarse sand. Do not keep it wet. Just barely moist and err...

Re: Growing Bananas at 8000 feet/searching for A'ea'e

By the time I cut all the rot off the original entire corm, I was left with two little pieces of corm/nubs of pups starting, and a precious few white roots. Now if these were cavendish type corms, I...

Re: Container TC Pups, slow growth/ Care Tips

Just like other bananas the corm will form. If you mean by "pruning", you are referring to the removal of leaves, I always leave any leaf with any amount of green, at all, on the plant till it...

Re: Container TC Pups, slow growth/ Care Tips

Yes they can be very slow (for a banana) and not very forgiving as they have no reserves like a larger banana would have in its corm. I gave my NoNo tissue culture no direct sun just artificial light...

Re: Brown/Black spots on cavendish/basjoo

The plants look like they're doing great! One thing I learned the hard way, was not to stress out about the smaller little details if the overall health of the plant is good.

Now it's good that you...
