Re: Growing Bananas at 8000 feet/searching for A'ea'e

I don't look at it as if I perfected something, all I did was eliminate the obvious mistakes. Once a grower eliminates the obvious mistakes then the small starts become easier to grow then the large...

Re: Veinte Cohol Pups Arrived - It Begins!

shrek is right that "Alot of Bananas look similar when they are young.", so instead of wasting time focusing on the similarities just look for the differences. Your Kokopo appear exactly like they...

Re: Veinte Cohol Pups Arrived - It Begins!

Alot of Bananas look similar when they are young.. VC's top out around 4 ft of p-stem and are very citrus'y. They are one of my Fav's.. Key for them is don't expose them to any temps below 50F.. They...

Same problem here. And I have zero problems with other sites. I fear this site is doomed if something is not fixed soon. I have been printing out some info that I want for future reference because I...

Re: Edible Musa collected in Sarawak Borneo

Looked through my reference material, found some color variation between pinkish and reddish for Namwa. Like the somatic mutations you mentioned, I wouldn't be too surprised if Pisang Awak types can...

Re: Veinte Cohol Pups Arrived - It Begins!

Hmm, my VC looks to have stunted growth. 5 leaves all next to each other at the same height. The 6th Leaf has grown to be a centimeter higher. New leaf on the way.

Kokopo is hardly hanging in. (its...

Re: Veinte Cohol Pups Arrived - It Begins!

Yeah It's been extremely slow. Also a flood of bots posting suspicious links too.

I think it might be targeted due to its simple domain name. Imagine how much someone would pay for "bananas.org"...

Re: False Ice Cream ID

Thank you very much for your replies!

That building is around 9-10ft high. The bunch hangs about 1-1,5meters(3-5ft) above the building. So i guess that makes the banana pseudo stem around...

I have no idea...

The flowers though are totally different color from the false Ice Cream. What color flowers are Pisang Awak supposed to have?

Re: Edible Musa collected in Sarawak Borneo

It's a pretty faint purple in the photo you uploaded, probably the color fading since it's been exposed for a while. Could also just be me misinterpreting lighting in the photo, like that blue/black...

Re: False Ice Cream ID

Height isn't reliable as an identifying trait unfortunately, a ±2 foot difference from average is common.

Fruit size and fill is also highly variable depending on growth conditions, so it's a...

Re: False Ice Cream ID

By chance could you tell us how tall the building next to the plant is? As an American, I had to convert the meters into feet, and you said it looks about 14.5-ish. To me, if that building is an...

Re: Edible Musa collected in Sarawak Borneo

Yep, the picture you labeled "female flowers" shows a trait pretty specific to Pisang Awak types (as far as I know.) The pedicels are purplish when freshly emerged, but that color doesn't last very...

Re: Edible Musa collected in Sarawak Borneo

To my eyes it seems to be Pisang Awak/Namwa, and I'll walk through my thought process.

Petiolar canal- closed
Bracts- lifting with minimal rolling
Bunch density/position- relatively compact with...

Interesting thread, thanks for posting.

What you're trying to do is fairly simple and I've been giving away a'ea'e cuttings like that for years. I've only had one client that was unsuccessful and...
