I went to a little farm down here, and got some pictures of the Velutina they had.

They had atleast 8 varieties of cultivated bananas!

None Cavendish either, it was beautiful.

1. April-October water frequently and soil should always be at least moist to 12-16" depth. In the winter just enough water to keep soil damp.

2. Depending on soil type a soaker hose may not work....

Wiggling it from side to side can also indicate the presence of rot but there's nothing comparable to getting eyes on it.
