OK I understand. I've learned how to cull out the mats, compost, water. I have 3 mats now. My goal is learning to grow the fruit, as many varieties as possible.

We're in zone 9, no frost after Easter. Right now we're windy. This mat is in the SE inside corner of the house (in fact the mat is 40+ yrs old). I composted them w/ Black Cow steer manure the first of the month, watering regularly.

If the leaves get lost due to cold the plant will not take the fruit to maturity....so if you are prone to cold...plant you bananas under a canopy (plants or man made)....

Thank you! Please explain about the leaves? I want to learn all I can about growing fruit. I know these are quite early.

You can protect the fruit...but you need the leaves to power them through maturity....good luck!!
