Hi jtkk, it is a pup from your main pstem. This happens quite often with well developed plants when they are stressed. They will stop growing, go into dormancy and reproduce a pup. It can even happen with very small plants.

This is the Musa acuminata subsp truncata. What you have near and around Mt Kinabalu is Musa acuminata subsp microcarpa.
