If you know the name of the Hotel sometimes you can find articles about their history. I worked at an old hotel in Toledo that too was spose to be a place Al Capone hug out at. Its all decorated in hand carved wormy chestnut. It has murals painted in the lobby and I was able to find out the designer and even the artist. It was done in an Old English Manor style. Its converted to apartments now. It was connected to the historic Valentine Theater which was a happening place in its time. Of course that will only help if it was part of the original decor or a major renovation that's documented. Anyway good luck it looks to be old and it is a awesome piece.
