I put my mats along the fence also. Also potted stuff waiting to grow out, alternating with tomatoes, kale, hot and sweet peppers, arugala, basil and aji dulce - aka cachucha peppers. Also thyme, chives and black pepper vines. If I could grow Spanish chorizo sausage I would! The south facing fence provides some shade and the veggies last long into the summer. The bananas leaf out above the fence and are happy as well. The 4x4's provide support for the taller varieties using marine cleats. Totally win win. Also a great excuse to get rid of more grass area I will not have to mow!!!
